What’s scarier than a person reviewing what you’ve poured your heart and soul into?
Easy! A group of people, sat round with the singular purpose of dissecting your work i.e. a book club.
And yet I was delighted when I first heard that Gamekeeper Turned Poacher had been picked up by one. So much so, in fact, that we have done some specific marketing to get others on board.
I guess the reality didn’t hit me until one in Nottingham, where the book is based, said they would pick it if I would come up to the meeting to answer any questions they may have. Of course I said yes, and I will welcome the chance to talk about it, but that’s not to say I won’t be a bundle of nerves as I make the trip up.
Until I know whether it was an enjoyable or a harrowing experience, I am grateful that most just want me to provide with a list of questions to help prompt their discussions.
I’m not quite sure why I have decided to share them with you here but you may find them interesting things to consider if you have just finished reading my first book. Perhaps they may even encourage you to recommend my work to any clubs you know.
By the way, I’m not a great believer in reinventing the wheel so I have taken more than a little inspiration from elsewhere!
